For today's #SchoolSiteHighlight we are going to Canyon Ridge High School and visiting their esports program which is taught by Mr. Rodriguez. They play a variety of games including chess, Brawlhallah, Minecraft, Rocket League, Valorant, and Overwatch. Thanks to Mr. Rodriguez's dedication and passion the program has grown from 6 students in the 1st year to 29 this year. The teams compete in the HSEL (High School Esports League) and there are many college scholarship opportunities available to those that participate. Here is a video made by student Matthew Biendara that highlights the program and was submitted to HSEL and was so well received that they featured it on their website and 52 other schools followed Matthew's lead and made their own videos highlighting their esports programs. https://live.myvrspot.com/iframe?v=fNmRmYzVmZWI5MjZiYjk1NzQyMGMyNTA0YTEzYjlkYjA

As part of the 2nd annual HUSD SeniorPalooza program, a few eligible HUSD High School seniors took a free shopping trip to the South Coast Plaza Macy's for needed grad night and prom clothing. The SeniorPalooza program also pays for the students' tickets to their grad night and prom events. Special thanks to HUSD Social Worker Ms. Cynthia Thoele and Student Services staff Ms. Windy Ferren and Ms. Kelly Garcia for organizing the program and chaperoning the event. And an early congratulations to the SeniorPalooza students and all HUSD seniors for graduation! #IMPACTtheFutureHUSD

Today's #SchoolSiteHighlight is at Mojave High school in Mr. Rowland's renewable energy science class. This is a class unique to Mojave and was developed by Mr. Rowland to give students a better view of how science can solve real-world problems. Yesterday's class was presented with the challenge of using wind power to pump water uphill to a village. The students built their own wind turbines over several lab sessions and collaborated to solve the problem. It was exciting to see how engaged the students were to try and solve the problem. Thanks to Mr. Rowland for keeping our students so engaged and coming up with a unique approach to do so.

We wanted to highlight a few of our recent Hesperia Adult School graduates and congratulate them on their achievements. Ximena "Darlene" Nares is a Hesperia Adult School graduate. As a result of her success, Darlene was recommended and approved as an HUSD volunteer for both Hesperia Adult School and Canyon Ridge High School. Michael Moreno is a parent with children in HUSD. He earned his diploma and is now applying for employment that he previously was not eligible to apply for without a diploma. Michael said earning his diploma has been life-changing. Aurora "Salem" Weatherson's career goal is to become a Drama and English teacher. Salem met with the Adult Education Victor Valley College Transition Counselor this week to begin college classes in the fall. Congratulations to all of our graduates and best of luck in their future endeavors.

Congratulations to Topaz's Vex Robotics team made up of students Timothy Scearce and Luke Walters on winning the Judge's Award at the State Vex Championship this year. They are coached by Patrick Nicholson, Jessica Clausnitzer, and Chris Montes. Timothy and Luke, along with the help of students Matthew Montes and Jason Walters noticed that a competing team had one of their brains die, putting them out of the competition halfway through the day. These students saw what was happening and approached Mr. Nicholson and asked him if they could lend a "spare brain" to this team so they could stay in the competition. They did, and the competing team was able to stay in the competition. Congratulations on the award and a great job showing sportsmanship. We are proud that kids like this represent HUSD.
